sketchbook traffic patterns

Begun in 2010 while living overseas,  I have maintained an on-the-go practice of motion generated drawings as a passenger in all kinds of transport. In small sketchbooks, I create a frame by tracing a playing card or coaster, then using a fine tip pen, I exert just enough pressure to create lines and dots while still allowing the motion to influence my marks. I also include a few notes on where and when the “reading” occurred. While this practice started purely by accident, it captured my curiosity enough to become an ongoing investigation. I find that connecting with the mark on the page locates me in a specific place, time, and experience, and, in that very particular moment, I am part of something vast. While I have hundreds of these and continue to generate them, I have included a selection here.
